LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a man accused of leading Lake County deputies on a chase crashed head-on into a car carrying a family of four.
According to deputies, the chase started along northbound I-65 and continued westbound onto the Indiana Toll Road after officers attempted to stop the driver for traffic violations.
Authorities say they attempted a maneuver to stop the fleeing driver, but he managed to get away and allegedly began driving on the wrong side of the road.
Deputies say while he was driving into oncoming traffic along the Toll Road, the driver eventually crashed into another car head-on.
According to deputies, the driver, a 20-year-old man, suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in the crash.
The members of a family of four, who were inside the car, were all treated for injuries at the scene, but the extent of their injuries is unclear.
Deputies an investigation into the crash is ongoing. Caruthers Towing assisted first responders with clean up.
